On February 19, a training course on “Modern Radiotherapy: Technological and Future Developments” held by Prof. Piercarlo Gentile, Medical Director of UPMC San Pietro FBF Advanced Radiotherapy Center, was broadcast on Sky channel Doctor’s Life and on doctorslife.it. The 1-hour course is intended to provide surgeons with medical and scientific competencies on the use of new technologies for cancer care and treatments.
A key challenge in radiotherapy has always been to maximize the radiation dose to the target tumor while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. Modern linear accelerators are equipped with dose modulation systems that can optimize the dose distribution around the target. However, there are still limitations associated with the normal movement of the organs within the body (interfraction/intrafraction movement), and with the changes in the body over time, especially in case of long treatments. Today’s challenge is understanding if new technologies can facilitate a more and more accurate and selective dose delivery.
The course, which offers also CME credits, is available online on doctorslife.it and on SKY channel 440 at following dates and times:
February 25 and 26, 5:00 p.m.
February 28, 11:00 a.m.
March 1, 11:00 p.m.
March 3, 5:00 p.m.
